Relief for High Blood Pressure | Las Vegas Chiropractor
Are you one of the many Las Vegas residents with high blood pressure? If so, you’re not alone: nearly 78 million Americans – one out of three adults – has high blood pressure, according to the American Heart Association. That means you are at risk for diseases ranging from stroke and heart attack to arterial aneurysm and even renal failure.
Plenty of factors affect your blood pressure, including diet, exercise and genetics. Blood pressure medicine can help control your hypertension. But chiropractic has repeatedly shown its ability to ameliorate the problem – without the use of medication.
A study published in the Journal of Human Hypertension in 2007 showed positive changes in 25 patients who had both high blood pressure and a misaligned Atlas vertebra (located high in the neck). A control group of 25 patients did not experience those changes.
George Bakris, lead author of the study and director of the hypertension center at the University of Chicago Medical Center, said a single chiropractic adjustment decreased blood pressure significantly – in fact, the reduction was similar to that among patients taking two blood pressure-lowering drugs simultaneously.
Another study published in the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research on April 24, 2012 showed additional evidence that chiropractic care can normalize blood pressure. That study included patients with high, low and normal blood pressure. Once again, the patients received a chiropractic adjustment to the Atlas vertebra. Blood pressure dropped significantly among those with high blood pressure, dropped slightly for those with normal pressure, and rose among those with low pressure.
This year, the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research published a study on January 19, which reported the results of chiropractic adjustment on a 55-year-old male who had suffered from hypertension for more than 20 years. He was unable to manage it successfully with medication. He was followed for seven months after a single upper cervical chiropractic adjustment, and his blood pressure went from 180/110 to 136/82. This occurred without any change in the patient’s diet or weight, and after eliminating all his medications.
The spine, which houses the nervous system, is the communications center of the body. A misaligned spine can lead to all sorts of maladies, from back pain to ear infections, asthma and fatigue. It’s like having the wheels of your automobile out of alignment. Your car doesn’t run efficiently, and your tires wear out prematurely on Las Vegas roads. Similarly, a spine that is out of alignment impairs your body’s ability to function at its peak.
