Las Vegas Chiropractor Can Help Relieve Fibromyalgia Symptoms

If you’re suffering from fibromyalgia, you might want to put chiropractic care on your treatment list.

Medical professionals aren’t certain what causes fibromyalgia. But studies show that most fibromyalgia patients have a major risk factor in common: chronic back pain or chronic neck pain caused by spinal misalignment – that is, vertebrae that have shifted out of their proper position.

Consider the following research, illuminating the relationship between spinal misalignment and fibromyalgia:

Dan Buskila, an Israeli professor of medicine, followed 161 people to determine whether fibromyalgia developed after trauma. Of those people, 102 patients had whiplash injuries and 59 had a fractured leg. Twenty-two percent of those with neck injuries developed fibromyalgia. Only 2 percent of those with leg injuries developed fibromyalgia.  The study was published in Arthritis and Rheumatology.

Another study, conducted in Germany, reviewed the records of 61 patients with fibromyalgia symptoms. The authors concluded, “In over 50 percent of examined patients, diagnostic details referred to chronic lumbar and cervical spine syndromes.”

A third study indicates the efficacy of chiropractic intervention. In 1985, rheumatologist Dr. Frederick Wolfe asked 81 fibromyalgia patients what type of treatment best relieved their pain levels. Chiropractic scored as one of the best treatments for managing body aches, as well as allowing patients to sleep better and experience less fatigue during the day.

What is the connection between spinal misalignment and fibromyalgia? Spinal misalignments exert pressure on the delicate nerves sending messages from the brain to the rest of the body.  Such “nerve interference” can lead to dysfunction, as the affected nerves fail to deliver their messages to the corresponding limbs, organs, and muscles. Without that connection, your body can’t work properly.
